Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our booking process, appointments, referrals, and Medicare rebates.

Do I need a GP referral to book an appointment?

No referral is strictly required to attend our practice as a private client. However, to access Medicare rebates under a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) or Chronic Disease Management Plan, a referral from your GP, pediatrician, or psychiatrist is necessary prior to your initial appointment.

What happens during the initial booking consultation?

For children under 14, the initial 50-minute consultation is typically conducted with parents/caregivers only. This provides a transparent space to explore developmental history, current concerns, family dynamics, and treatment goals without the child feeling self-conscious. For older adolescents, young people are invited to participate as appropriate.

Can I claim Medicare or Private Health insurance rebates?

Yes. With an eligible Mental Health Treatment Plan from your doctor, you can claim Medicare rebates for up to 10 individual psychology sessions per calendar year. Alternatively, private health funds often provide extras coverage for psychological consultations. Please check with your specific health insurer regarding benefit limits.

How long does a psychological assessment take?

A comprehensive psychological evaluation typically spans 3 to 4 clinical appointments, including an initial parent consultation, direct psychometric testing sessions with the child (usually 2–3 hours across 1–2 visits), and a comprehensive feedback consultation where the diagnostic report and recommendations are provided.

Are your services NDIS registered?

We support families who are Self Managed or Plan Managed under the NDIS for capacity building supports. Please note our practice does not manage Agency Managed (NDIA-managed) funding directly.

What age groups do you support?

The practice specializes in pediatric and youth psychology, supporting toddlers (from age 3), primary school children, and adolescents up to age 18, alongside dedicated caregiver consultations.
